The MSTA S20 is one of the most unique and tactically useful vehicles in the game. It is sadly often used very poorly by their operators which causes their main advantage to be invalidated. These Tanks are base killers but they have weak armor and do negligible damage to other vehicles. These are NOT battle tanks so don't go attacking other units with them (even though they do look intimidating). These are for fire support when attacking bases ONLY.
The main fault with people using these tanks is they fail to properly utilize their amazing bonus to their range. S20's have a range of 24 which is the same as a base with Advanced Missiles installed. Yet many people drive these things far too close to their target base and end up taking heavy losses to the base defenses.
The proper tactic is to keep these at the limit of their range and retreat them if targeted or, with some practice, actually pull them out of range before the base acquires a new target and then send them back in again.
It is important to note that these vehicles also do not auto fire so you MUST order them to shoot the base. If the S20 is in range when you target the base it will shoot immediately, however, if it is not in range it will drive to within pointblank range and then shoot. This means you must have them in range before you order them to fire.
Tactic: Have the s20's selected then give a move order to the front of the base (white circle) then immediately after order them to shoot the base (red circle) then do this again every second until they actually shoot. Once they open fire; move the camera over the S20's and order them to move one spot left or right. This will simply budge them in either direction and they will basically stop at their maximum range and continue to assault the base and if they begin to be attacked then you can pull then out of range again in a couple of seconds.
You should also typically NEVER control more than one group at once. If you are fielding two or more then do them seperatly. Dragging a box and doing them together just won't work effectively. With practice you can micromanage 3-4 full groups with the above method at the same time.
